On Friday, October 27, students from grades prep, 9 and 10, eight teachers from the Social Sciences Department, and our principal, Elvan TONGAL, went to Ankara.  On Saturday, October 28, the students visited the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.  Second, the students went to Anıtkabir. They walked on “Aslanlı Road” and reached the mausoleum of the Great Ataturk. In an official ceremony held exclusively for students from SAC, the School Principal Elvan TONGAL put a wreath on the Anıtkabir and SAC History Teacher Mehmet Sait EMİR signed the guest book on behalf of SAC.

 

After the ceremony, the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations was visited and workshops were held with the students.  When students were done with their visit to Ankara, they then went to Konya. Students participated in the celebration program of the Republic Day on the 29th of October in Konya Square.  Students then went to Çatalhöyük, the first city-settlement area in ​​the world. In Çatalhöyük, a historical heritage area, the students attended an interdisciplinary workshop involving history, geography, philosophy, and religion on Anatolian Civilization was given.  Last, the students went to the Mevlana Museum. After the museum visit, the teachers discussed with the students the importance of being a good person, helping to develop an empathetic culture, tolerance, respect and social unity.

 

Our students increased their awareness of the Great Ataturk’s legacy and the revolutions he led.  They also strengthened their historical heritage awareness by more closely acquainting themselves with the Anatolian culture.
