With our science program we aim to educate our students to;
-
explain and apply scientific terminology, and to express scientific concepts in English,
-
apply the scientific methods to observe and explore environmental natural events,
-
understand the importance of safety in experimental works,
-
give importance to researches and to interpret the obtained results by using scientific methods,
-
be informed citizens that value science in an increasingly technological world,
-
have knowledge and confidence to enable them to understand their internal and external environment.
CHEMISTRY AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Everything we hear, see, smell, taste and touch around involves chemistry and chemicals. That’s why it is important to know about chemistry in order to understand what happens in our environment. Chemistry is a branch of science that studies properties of matter and the changes it can undergo. Chemistry provides understanding the basic properties of matter and learning how to explain the changes that occur when they react to form new substances. Our aim is to educate our students to identify and explain the basic concepts and theories of chemistry. While doing this, we aim a student to demonstrate a disciplined approach to problem solving in chemistry, to develop skills in team work for designing experimental strategies to collect data through proper measurements, to report and interpret the data from the laboratory projects in a meaningful manner and to explain how modern technology is dependent upon the discoveries in Chemistry.
PHYSICS AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Our purpose in Physics is to increase our students’ skills as follows;
Determine and apply scientific skills which are creative thinking, analytical and visual thinking, data processing, mathematical and advance thinking, creating a problem, gathering information from various sources during research process, separating gathered data, stating hypothesis and deciding dependent-independent and controlling variables.
Identify suitable materials and safely apply them into experiments, lead problem solving. Design new materials and create new measuring ways. Somehow implement new findings (data) into tables considering their units, draw graphs, analyze those findings using calculators, statistical methods and interpret data, lead the solution, locate errors if needed. These skills can be achieved/improved by performing experiments related to the subject.
Understand the nature of physics and technology; define Physics as the foundation of natural science used in understanding the dynamics of Universe. Comprehend that physics is to be tested, questioned, proved, based on facts, yet might be improved with new technological findings. Understand the relationship between Physics & Technology in our daily lives. Find the related information for a specific problem and learn to validate that information by testing the source. Improve internet skills in locating, sharing, and successfully presenting the necessary information.
Develop more positive attitudes towards physics as well as understanding the improvements in the world of physics. Use the information learned in physics through real life decisions. Increase awareness towards physics’ impact on environmental, economical, and social life. Create awareness for the scientific and technological development of the society and country itself and claim responsibility for those developments. Increase awareness towards efficient resource consumption.
BIOLOGY AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Biology is the study of living things – why they are living, how they are living, where they are living, what they need to be living and much more. Life is everywhere around us and we are part of it. It is fascinating to think what a special opportunity we have to be living on a planet that is bursting with so many forms of life. At SAC, students will learn how to study and understand life and life processes on multiple levels, and in doing so, gain a deeper appreciation for the life that exists around them and within them.
Students will:
-
Model the question-asking habits that exemplify a scientist
-
Model the exploratory practices that exemplify a scientist
-
Learn to use the Scientific Method to guide experimentation
-
Learn to use reason and critical thought to solve problems
-
Gain a deep understanding of life by looking outward to the broadest macroscopic level – Environmental Science and Ecology, inward to the smallest microscopic level – Molecular Biology and cellular processes, and by investigating everything in between.
-
Be involved in projects that give them the opportunity to engage in real-world scientific research. This includes off-campus field work and collaboration with students from other schools in Turkey and abroad.
The ultimate goal for Biology at SAC is that all students will become skillful examiners of their world by asking and answering questions using the critical thought and methods of a scientist. All they need to achieve this goal is curiosity and a willingness to work hard!
